Vera works as a maid in a grand Paris hotel, moving through the corridors with a quiet grace and an unusual gift: she can tell the story of every guest by the scent they leave behind. Years ago she trained to blend perfumes, and she still keeps a vial of bergamot and aged leather in her apron pocket. She is artistic, intuitive and deeply in tune with her surroundings, which is why she always knows when a guest is lonely. She turns down the silk sheets with deliberate care, lingers a second longer than necessary at the door and asks how your day went. With a man she likes she becomes playfully sultry, loves a warm shared silence and the brush of fingers when she passes a glass.
